The nerve centre of Batignolles is undoubtedly Place du Dr Félix Lobligeois. All neighbourhood life revolves around this charming little square, reminiscent of a village: a fountain, restaurant terraces under the lime trees, a bakery, an ice cream parlour, and the pretty little church of Sainte-Marie des Batignolles.
And as in many French villages, Saturday is market day! To enjoy the Batignolles organic market, head to Boulevard des Batignolles between numbers 34 and 48 on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This market is very popular with Parisians as it only sells organic produce sourced directly from producers. During the week and on Sundays, you can also visit the Batignolles covered market at 96 bis Rue Lemercier.
Behind the Sainte-Marie des Batignolles church lies the charming Square des Batignolles. More typical than Martin Luther King Park and smaller than Parc Monceau, it delights local residents with its well-maintained lawns, century-old trees, public benches and duck pond.
And at the end of the square is La Batignollaise, the neighbourhood's pétanque club. We did warn you it was a real village!
A stone's throw away, in the Epinettes neighbourhood, the picturesque Cité des Fleurs, with its small village feel, delights strollers in search of greenery. This small pedestrian alleyway reveals villas with surprising architectural styles and small courtyards filled with flowers when the weather is fine. For the curious, take a look at No. 27, where the Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley lived for many years.
