Gaisthal is a quiet district of the town of Schönsee in the Upper Palatinate Forest and offers holidaymakers an idyllic mix of meadows, forests and rolling hills. Well-marked hiking and cycling trails lead from the village through the boundless forests or to the viewpoint of the ruins at Frauenstein. Excursions to the nearby Czech Republic to Pilsen or Karlovy Vary are worthwhile destinations. Water enthusiasts will get their money's worth in the lake district near Wackersdorf: here you can go sailing, swimming, diving or pedal boating. From the world's largest wooden adventure sphere on Lake Steinberg you have a marvellous panoramic view
