The area is ideal if you like sun and beach (Ventimiglia, Bordighera, Vallecrosia, Sanremo), but also if you want to experience the real Italian culture in the villages a little more inland. Dolceacqua, Pigna, Roccheta and Airole are typical villages where the Italian still lives the way he used to. Across the border in France (about a 30-minute drive) are more the glitter and glamorous cities such as Menton, Monaco and Nice. They are also worth a visit.
