The structure is a few meters from the Church of Sant'Anna di Palazzo, originally called the Church of the Rosary of Palazzo, was built and dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario, to celebrate the victory of Lepanto against the Ottoman army fleet in 1571. Over the centuries the Church underwent several transformations but was still witness to some important historical events such as the baptism of the painter Luca Giordano and the marriage of the revolutionary Eleonora Pimentel Fonseca in 1778.
