Situated on the spectacular south coast of Portugal, Le Méridien Penina Golf & Resort enjoys a prime location between the traditional fishing port of Portimão and the historic town of Lagos. Located in the Algarve, Portimão is uniquely diverse and features tempting beaches with warm seawater and majestic rock formations. Discover premiere sporting and leisure facilities, and immerse yourself in the culturally rich surrounding area at Le Méridien Penina Golf & Resort. The Penina course was the location for five of the Portuguese Open Championships. The Parque da Floresta course was designed by Pepe Gancedo, one of Spain's most famous architects, whose philosophy of golf course construction involves minimal alteration to the existing terrain. Parque da Floresta, the centre of a resort, and its course runs over hills behind the fishing village of Salema, which is near the historic town of Lagos and not far from the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve and the picturesque fishing village of Burgau. Umbrella pines, blossoming almond, fig, palm and olive trees line the rolling fairways, weaving their way between water hazards and shrewdly placed bunkers.
Breathtaking views, spectacular scenery and the clear Atlantic Ocean, which is visible from most holes, all combine to make Boa Vista Club a delight for the golfer.
From Faro airport the road leads down to join the main EN125 highway. Cross over the flyover and join the highway heading north away from the city of Faro. Go past the turn off for Almancil, which was the old route along the Algarve and continue to the intersection with the IP1 motorway. The road west is signposted to Lisbon and Portimao. Miss the turn off and you head towards Loule, it is wise to turn around and come back to join the IP1.
Burgau is a traditional fishing village with narrow cobbled streets. If you like to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches , crystal clear Atlantic ocean, walk on the cliff top to Salema, peruse local markets or simply inhale the intoxicatingly pure air , then Burgau will not be surpassed. The local people are most welcoming and English is widely used. The airport in Faro is only an hour's drive from this picturesque village.
