For water sports enthusiasts there is everything you could dream of around the Mar Menor. The Mar Menor (smaller sea) is a natural wonder and is the largest saltwater lake in Europe. It is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a 22km trip of land call La Manga. The Mar Menor area is known as ‘The Costa Calida’ meaning the warm coast. It has on average 320 days of sunshine a year. As it averages only 4m in depth, it warms up very quickly and is usually about 7 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean Sea. Great for bathing and water sports. It is renowned for its benevolent chemical properties and is classified as medicinal.
