You’ll struggle to beat the view at Villa the Phoenix, a villa for 8 (135 m²) with private pool, perched on the hillside that sweeps down to the beach and the ancient fishing village of Cantone di Nerano. Featuring some of the peninsula’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, including Taverna del Capitano and the Quattro Passi, this tiny hamlet has established itself as the place to dine on glossy homemade pastas and simple seafood accompanied by some of the best Amalfi Coast views.

The villa is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from the restaurants and the beach. Having a car is recommended, but with the bus stop close by, getting to Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi is easy.

Drink in the view from the (7 x 3 m) pool’s hydromassage area or on the dining terrace, which is partially shaded by a bamboo pergola and has a built-in brick barbecue. French windows lead from the terrace into the kitchen and the living room, which comprises a sitting room with a single sofa bed and TV, and a sleeping area with double bed. The sunny kitchen is well-equipped and has a dining area for 8 and impressive pizza oven. The laundry area is on the ground floor.

• The Amalfi Coast is best explored in spring, early summer or autumn when there are fewer crowds and temperatures are mild
• Enjoy more spectacular views across olive-grove-carpeted hillsides and the island of Capri on the hiking trail from Nerano to the Bay of Ieranto
