If Florence is your first love, Casale del Lago is excellently located – the spectacular Renaissance city is a short drive away. But there are also treasures to be found in the much smaller San Casciano val di Pesa, first settled by the Etruscans, a walk away. This neat, traditional rendered property in the heart of Chianti Classico territory lies at the end of an exclusive drive, overlooking a small lake, with views across surrounding forest-clad hills. The large furnished terrace that runs the breadth of the house is fully exposed to these vistas and the sun, but is otherwise deliciously private.

Arranged over two floors, the villa’s four bedrooms can accommodate up to eight people. Young and old will appreciate the private pool, set just beneath the house but easily overlooked from one of the two terraces, the indoor mini snooker table and outdoor barbecue and Hot tub. The large rustic kitchen is a great place for relaxed meals when you get tired of the sun. And, if you come at either end of the season, you’ll enjoy evenings by the fire under the wonderful original vaulted terracotta ceiling in one of the two lounges.
