You will find our house, Casa Berbigao on the car-free island of Armona.
Ilha Armona is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park with islands and sandbanks along the coast of the Eastern Algarve.
From Olhao , a ferry will take you to the island in about 15 minutes . From the harbour, a stone walkway leads past white summer residences, built in the style of old Portuguese fishermen's houses…..on the way there are 3 mini-supermarkets, a few restaurants and bars. The rest of the island consists of miles of fine sandy beaches. You can walk here for hours, sunbath and swim or just enjoy the tranquility.
Casa Berbigao is located at the end of the path, near the main beach (about 100 meters), where you will also find the restaurant Lanacosta. The other, smaller, beaches are also within walking distance of our house.
If you have had enough of the peace and quiet, then the mainland is very close. The trip to Olhao is an experience in itself. With usually a gentle sea breeze you sail over calm water along and through the nature reserve. You land in the center of the city: a bustling boulevard along the quay with a bustling fish market, an old city center with a maze of narrow, mosaic-paved streets, houses with beautiful tiled facades, seafood restaurants and dozens of boats in the marina.
Ilha Armona is a cure, a place that keeps out cars and the hectic life with full agendas. The island feeling and a cozy house in an environment of pure simplicity will completely relax you here.
