Apartment
About This Property
From a small piazzetta, a separate entrance of the palazzo, with a stone staircase leads 20 steps down to a spectacular vaulted cellar which is located on a rock, about 50 meters above sea level. In the last centuries this space (app 70 sqm) was used as warehouse to store olive oil and soap. The cellar has been restored with special techniques of insulation. The natural stone walls and ceilings are well preserved. The apartment is best suitable for 2 persons. The one bedroom is separated by a paravent from the living area. The bed is antique and a queen size (170cm x 195cm). The newly installed bathroom features a rain shower under a vaulted ceiling with sea view. From the living and dining area with a modern kitchenette you have access to a private garden terrace on top of the cliff. All windows, a small balcony and the terrace are facing the sea. You can enjoy breathtaking 180 degree sea and sunset views over the Bay of Santa Eufemia (or Gulf of Lamezia). On clear days you can spot the active volcano Stromboli, which is part of the Aeolian islands of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In spring, you might also see dolphins in the bay.
You can spend days on the private garden terrace of the residence watching fisher boats passing by and beautiful sunsets, or explore Calabrian history and beautiful landscapes in diverse day trips (we will provide you with ideas).
Pizzo is the ideal stop-over location when travelling between Amalfi and Sicily. From Salerno it is just a 2 1/2 hours train ride away - or a 4 hours drive from Napoli. In about 3 hours you can reach Taormina in Sicily from Pizzo (by road and ferry). In summer ferry boats take you on an Aeolian Island day tour, including volcano Stromboli. Departure is from Vibo Marina (4 km, 5 min drive from Pizzo) or Tropea.
Pizzo (the old town) is lively all year round, although more quiet from November until Easter/April. The best time to visit Calabria is from May to October. However, April and November can be nice and mild too and swimming in the sea might be possible. It rains most in December and January. You will find snow in the mountains during winter and can ski in some areas. The hottest and busiest month is August. Avoid to travel the days around 15th of August if you can. September and October are good for porcini mushroom collecting.
The little village beach at Pizzo Marina is picturesque with its colourful umbrellas that each visitor brings. This beach, although not service, features two sweet water showers, and the bars and pizzerias are just across the street.
Other beach areas of Pizzo, Piedigrotta, Marinella or Marina can also be reached with an Ape-Taxi Service from the main piazza.
You do not need a car to stay at Palazzo Pizzo Residence.
With your booking we will provide our guidebook to Pizzo with lots of recommendations for local restaurants, day trips, museums and important phone numbers.
